I completely agree with Kbutt. It should integrate with more then just Amazon. Kinda like the way PC Part Picker does it.

Maybe you can integrate it with a Widget of some sort. Some way to link to like Newegg or Amazon, or just about any retailer that is chosen at the time.

I'm not sure if it is possible, but maybe a way where you don't have to download their entire catalog, but maybe used more like a search engine that can automatically grab the pricing, shipping, URL, and Part Description off of their webpage for that part and have like a "Place Part Order" button on the widget that grabs this information automatically. Obviously though it would work more like an auto fill for the current part order page. Also inside of that widget if one wanted to they would be able to go to that merchants checkout page and finish there order.

I am not entirely sure how you would get the auto tracking information to attach. That sounds like to me a whole other beast to tackle.

Maybe on the part order page also an ability to integrate the part into your inventory at the same time.

Just some ideas to think about when/if you integrate this into RS.

We for one use Amazon 80% if the time because they are cheaper and faster, and because we don't have to order in bulk. Why not make this a little simpler:

- Allow repairshopr to sync with an amazon account
- Then all the parts that one uses in repairshopr is manually synced with amazon by the user
- This way when a part is ordered in the store, it is automatically ordered through Amazon as a PO

We also order from Amazon and Ebay all the time. Our tax id is on file with Amazon.

There are many whole sale distributers that I would rather see integrated into this other than Amazon which I rarely use.

The tracking feature needs to be fixed. What someone else said about being able to track the part directly.

There would be lots of tax complications with Amazon also. So many seller are not registered for tax, and some are. It would get very complicated. Also we need to utilise our credit accounts with suppliers/distributors. Amazon is great for smaller one of purchases but when you're ordering thousands of £/$ of stock Amazon isn't the answer for us.

I think RS should integrate with an aggregator like stockinthechannel.com. stockinthechannel.com talks to all the major UK and US distributors and provides real time stock, price and other info.

To add on a little to what rob said. I would love to see the ability to have parts on an estimate auto fill to part orders.

I would think that there are many other suppliers that have a full inventory that directly relates to our needs more than Amazon. At most amazon/ebay are for one off orders, not basing your entire inventory system on. The purpose of ifixit and other integrations is to import their catalogue so it is easier to track and reorder parts. I would think other companies would be better as options including an accessory provider such as Voicecomm.

You're absolutely right that you can't hard link parts, which would be the problem with Amazon because the order will always vary. (the same RAM order won't be frequently repeated).

I can't really speak to how the implementation would work, because I don't know what you have access to and what you don't. BUT.. I can say what our pain points are in this arena:

- When I prepare an estimate, I will base certain parts around items that I source from Amazon. I'd like to have those parts link to the Amazon product.

- Automatically pull our cost, order date, direct product link, manufacturer, model, whatever data you're allowed to scrape on the part, scrape it.

- When that estimate gets approved, I'd like to be able to quickly get those items, order them, track that they've been ordered. Currently I have to manually create part orders based on the estimate. Now I have items in an estimate AND i have part orders that are not related to each other. (this causes issues when it comes time to generate an invoice by having "left over" parts listed in the customer if I convert the estimate to an invoice)

- I'd love to be able to see the tracking status of the part from the RS part screen while we wait for the package.

- When the parts come in, I want my receiver to be able to quickly identify what parts they are and where/who they belong. Bonus points for getting the parts to automatically update as received when Amazon/shipper says they've been delivered and signed for.

- When I create an invoice, I want to be able to bring in what was ordered in addition to whatever was on the estimate without creating duplicates.

Conveniences like in-console part ordering will almost never be cheaper than going through a third-party vendor. I can definitely see why this hasn't really been explored, but I agree that it would be very nice to have Amazon integration. All other distributors and websites aside, the only one I'd trust and really look forward to would be Amazon.

How would it work? With the iFixit catalog and the wholesale gadget parts catalog we import the entire thing into our DB, or directly into your inventory in RS. We couldn't do that with amazon for sure.

Would you want to map an amazon product to a RepairShopr product, sort of like vendor SKUs - but put the ASIN there?

Would you just want an auto-complete-like search on the parts order page??

Other ideas for how to actually integrate it?

In my experience, when you want something like a hard drive or a stick of ram - you almost never buy the same one more than once or twice, because the pricing/availability changes so much - you are constantly re-shopping on amazon.

We order 90% of our stuff from Amazon as well- hopefully if Prime Now sticks it out, that'd be great too.

All I can say with confidence is that for cell phone repair, the currently integrated suppliers are insanely overpriced and we would never use them. More options would certainly be welcomed.

I agree, this is so true. We order parts like SSDs and HDs off Amazon all the time. We can often get better pricing via Amazon then from our SYNNEX or D&H accounts. OWC would also be a great option for us Mac Shops, they have systems in place that may make this easy to do as well.

The same also applies to Ebay as well as Amazon.
A lot of online parts distributors I use have an Ebay shop as a distribution method
