Track purchased items like computers, tablets, cell phones etc.
I think this would benefit any shop who purchases used or broken devices for resale or parts. Here is the scenario that we are in and what I am suggesting.
Customer comes in to sell their broken or used device (this happens almost on a daily basis). We wont purchase anything without running our diagnostics and testing every component just like we would for a repair, so we would really benefit from having a ticket for the possible purchases. Anyways, we determine what all is needed to repair the device and how much it is currently worth as well as how much it would be worth once refurbished. We then make an offer and if the customer accepts, we make a receipt for them. The receipt includes the following information: Name, drivers license number (to avoid theft), make and model of device, serial number/service tag and price that the item was purchased for. We then have the customer sign the receipt. In the past, we have tried using our ordinary ticket system for this type of transaction, but it just cluttered the ticket system and affected our reports making them inaccurate. So this is what I am suggesting.
The ability to create a separate ticket section (best way I can think of it) that does not show up in the normal repairs list. This would track all the information that we need (listed above) as well as have other information for techs like diagnostic results (we can add this with custom fields), current value of device, value of device when refurbished and amount we are willing to offer. There would also be a drop down status for accepted or unaccepted by customer. If accepted, we would then be able to create an invoice showing that we are purchasing this device from the customer. Most all the data listed above would also be displayed on this invoice except for current value and value when refurbished. There would then be a place for the customer to sign at the bottom and once the money has been accepted, the money would need to show that it has been pulled out from the cash drawer or petty cash and be able to be show this in quick books.
Once we have purchased the item, assuming that it needs to be refurbished, we can then treat this like a normal ticket (keeping it separate still) and update it like normal, order parts for it like normal, make logs like normal, etc. Once the device has been refurbished, it would be nice to be able to add this asset to our inventory for resale.
If the item does not need to be refurbished (like a tablet or phone), we can this close out the ticket and immediately add it to our inventory for resale.
Hey, the beta is ready – head to Inventory Settings to enable purchasing from the public, and you’ll see it linked on the invoices screen in upper right (tentative)
