This thread seems to be talking about different things – so I need to get clarification if possible.

When you comment on this thread please state if you want “gift certificate support”, meaning a template to print them or something, and maybe a way to track the balance – OR -

“gift card support via Vantiv” where you have to buy magstripe cards with your design, have a Vantiv account, and deal with loading / checking balances / and the regulation that goes along with being required to allow people to cash out/etc.

We can refer to these as “basic gift certificates” or “magstripe gift cards” in the comments.

Feel free to say you want both! :)

The Vantiv “gift card support” is a fairly large project that we would need to see a lot of votes to get going.

A basic gift certificate tracking system might be simpler and…

I'm just setting up Repairshopr for a Bicycle workshop and I finding the set up categories not very intuitive and quite limited. With bikes unlike phones, a chain can be used on many different bikes. I would like to categorize my inventory into Groups and sub groups like Bikes, Frames, Components, Parts, Accessories, Apparel. on top of that for each category there are things like Brand, Type, model, Color, Then there's different categories of labor like Service packages, Ala Carte procedures, Bike fitting, Hourly, Clinics & consultations, warranty, etc.
Currently the tree group and sub group is isolated to that product. and has to be created for every product. A tag system like what Vend uses is much more user friendly.
Example: Shimano Chain 9 speed CN-HG93 116Links Zinc
This is a component of a bike, not a part. parts of a chain would be the links, or the connectors.
This component could be used on any 9 speed bike.
Ideally it would be categorized into the following category and sub categories or tags.

    Q: What is it?
    A: Chain

    Overreaching category
    Component: Chain
    Tags
    Brand: Shimano
    Type: HG 9 speed
    Model: CN-HG93
    Colour: zinc
    Type: 116 links

The current system is confusing and labor intensive and while I'm clear how to organize my inventory I'm not clear on how that is done in Repairshopr. It seems I have to set up many different sub tree categories for each product. Is that right?

This way I could search or create reports according to categories and or tags. Also a derailleur (a component) has many small parts that are brand specific and year specific. Such as cage, anchor bolt, main pivot bolt etc. All this has to be inventoried and reported on to keep adequate supply and turnover.
This small component and parts of components categorization of inventory is crucial to any workshop set up, maintenance and reporting.
Please consider this as since 2018 many systems have upgraded the way they do things and are a lot better at providing easy to use intuitive inventory systems
