Improvements to parts module
As a one man band I don't keep a lot of parts in stock. I tend to order
parts as I need them. So I am using the inventory as a database of parts I have ordered rather than the parts I keep in stock. The problem is I can't order a part that is in the inventory against a ticket and I can't add a part ordered from the ticket screen to the inventory without going to the inventory screen and entering the details separately,(correct me please if I have missed something).
My preferred workflow would be this:
- Click on part order from ticket screen.
- Select a previously ordered part from a database
- Generate purchase order if necessary or be directed to online store. If details are not in database - Enter part details and Vendor information. This information would be added to the database and vendor list.
- Part is added to a list of parts on order and the ticket is automatically assigned the status of waiting parts. In the database that part record shows the status and order number.
- When all parts are arrived on a ticket, the ticket status automatically reverts to in progress.
You obviously already have a database of parts orders. Maybe it should
be kept separate from the inventory and expanded to include the following:
1. Searchable from part order screen
2. Linked to vendor database.
3. Option to generate purchase order.

Well, in our shop we also don't keep in stock parts of some brands.
So we use a lot the parts order module.
We feel the need that the module have search functions, like in other modules.
Like in ticket modules, that we can sort by data, ticket number and have filters to search something.
Also, in reports, you could add a report of part orders bought in a time period. Those improvements would be a great help.

I agree there needs ot be some work but I don't like the idea of automatically using those statuses, we use our own status options for in-house tickets, if we could set which status it would change to that would be great but I wouldn't be a fan of a predefined thing. To many people using status in their own way to lock it in.
I would like to see the ability to connect these part to your choice of item form the inventory list, like defining that all parts would connect to the "products Purchases" in Xero so they get managed properly vs every thing going to misc. The lack of control here makes for extra bookwork every month.
