We need a solution to all of the customers who have proper surnames that are wildly different from their nicknames or callnames. I don't know who the genius was that decided nicknames could be spelled completely different than the proper name; but they make me hate life sometimes. Here are some examples of SURNAME:NICKNAMES that are often COMPLETELY different than what we are trying to lookup:

Bill:William
Dick:Richard
Jerry:Gerald
Bob:Robert

Another issue is misspellings of names that can be spelled in different ways. There are all kinds of ways to spell certain names, and there's no way to know without having to spell it out every time. It would be very helpful to have these kinds of things match too:

Nicole:Nichole:Nickole:Nicki
Kelly:Kely:Kelli
Ellen:Ellyn:Elln
Barbara:Barbarra:Barbi
Patty:Patti:Patricia
Michael:Mike:Mikey
Judith:Judi:Judy

It would be great if we could have some type of 'public rules engine' to help match these customers to existing contacts. Otherwise, maybe just a spot in 'customer settings' for us to be able to program in the ones that are always an issue. Something basic, where you can type multiple names in on a single line to suggest/match other names on the same line.
